Great Aperture Tip!

Have you yet tired Aperture? I'm really beginning to enjoy the workflow and adjustment tools. If you're a serious photographer (or serious hobbyist like me) it's definitely worth a look. -TG

Working with Metadata views in Aperture

Aperture is Apple's tool designed for professional photographers who take lots and lots of pictures. As such, handling metadata is an important part of any workflow involving Aperture. James Duncan Davidson has some tricks to help you get the metadata you need into Aperture as quickly as possible. I'm sure this will save someone some time out there.

Amazon posts Great Mac Sales

MacBooks top Amazon's PC best sellers

While MacBooks and iPods have already been unwrapped the world over during this holiday season, retailers are also taking the wraps off some of their own presents in the form of sales numbers. In a press release containing interesting holiday sales trivia and a hot sellers list for all of their many departments, Amazon announced the 13-inch MacBook (in both white and black) and 15.4-inch Sony VAIO notebook as the top sellers in the PC aisle. Interesting - maybe some of that 'non-PC PC' marketing paid off after all.

iPods, of course, topped the consumer electronics department, along with Canon Powershot Digital Elph Cameras and Garmin GPSes, but that isn't nearly as interesting news (anymore) as Macs topping out a PC sales list at such a neutral retailer. Rock on Apple.

Apple Forges Financial Docs?

Apple forges financial docs

We have written about the Apple stock options story before, but things just keep getting worse. The Associated Press is reporting that former Apple execs forged documents in order to maximize options payouts. The article also goes on to say that Steve Jobs has retained his own legal counsel, apart from Apple's, which is never a good sign (though I would retain my own legal counsel if I were involved in something of this nature).

Apple shares dropped on this news.

PC Mag VIP posts switcher tips

There are switchers, and then there are Switchers. Robyn Peterson, executive product director/executive producer at Ziff Davis, is a capital-S-Switcher; when the guy who's responsible for PCMag.com jumps the tracks to a Mac, there's a serious movement afoot.

Peterson has his rationale for the switch and a list of five tips for switchers ("Where's the Start menu?!?") posted over yonder. Just one more indication that the Intel migration, though challenging and sometimes painful, is paying dividends in market share for Apple.

iTunes has a Great Christmas

iTunes website hit by Christmas rush

AppleInsider reports that not only did iTunes get swamped yesterday (as expected), but visits to Apple.com/iTunes, presumably to download software, were up by four hundred percent over last year's Christmas rush. Think about that. Apparently a gadzillion people got new iPods this year, and a good number of them clicked over to Apple.

The article goes on to say that visits to the Apple iTunes webpage outnumbered visits to Zune.net by about thirty-to-one. Given that iPods presumably outsold Zunes by a far heftier margin, I'm guessing that the Zune.net visits had something to do with technical support by confused new owners, but I have no evidence whatsoever to back up that guess.

Adobe to release Intel-native Photoshop beta

Here's a special news alert from Macworld news: On Friday, December 15,
Adobe will release a public beta of Photoshop CS3. This beta, available to
Photoshop CS2 and Adobe Creative Suite CS2 users, will run natively on
Intel-based Macs. That will remove the performance penalty Photoshop users
experienced when running CS2 on Intel-based Macs using Apple's Rosetta
emulation technology.

For more details on the Photoshop CS3 beta, including new features added
to the next version of Photoshop, read Jim Dalrymple's news story:
