Wired News: Making the IPod More Sensitive:
Apple Computer and Nike's new iPod-sneaker combination for monitoring exercise could be just the first of several activity-aware applications for the iPod -- and maybe even a new gesture interface that uses movement to select songs or adjust the volume.
In case you missed it, Apple and Nike have teamed up to develop a wireless Sport Kit sensor that tucks into new Nike sneakers that will be on the market shortly.

Apple Loses Battle to Bloggers
Apple Loses Bid to Unmask Bloggers' Sources
A California appeals court has smacked down Apple's legal assault on bloggers and their sources, finding that the company's efforts to subpoena e-mail received by the publishers of Apple Insider and PowerPage.org runs contrary to federal law, California's reporter's shield law, and the state Constitution.
The Sixth District Court of Appeals on Friday roundly rejected (.pdf) Apple's argument that the bloggers weren't acting as journalists when they posted internal document about future Apple products. "We decline the implicit invitation to embroil ourselves in questions of what constitutes 'legitimate journalis(m).' The shield law is intended to protect the gathering and dissemination of news, and that is what petitioners did here," the court wrote.

New MacBook Benchmarks Well
13-Inch MacBook Benchmarks - by David Nagel.
Apple Final Cut Studio rendering and encoding tests By Dave Nagel As the replacement for Apple's consumer-level iBook line, the new 13-inch MacBook isn't being marketed toward creative professionals. Nevertheless, packed with one of the most powerful mobile processors on the market--a 2.0 GHz Intel Core Duo--this little notebook offers amazing rendering and encoding performance. But is it good enough to compete with the MacBook Pros and with desktop G5 systems? Surprisingly, yes, it is.

Apple and Nike, Running Mates:
iPod-compatible footwear that tracks runners' training routines is just the beginning of a collaboration between these iconic brands
As corporate logos go, few are as recognizable as the bitten apple that appears on all things Apple Computer (AAPL). Few, that is, except maybe the swoosh that has appeared on Nike's (NKE) shoes and apparel from the company's beginning.

Now the two companies behind those logos are teaming up. At an event in New York, Nike and Apple said they are collaborating on a series of products that bridge the gaps between sports, electronics, and entertainment.
Their first jointly produced product: the Nike+iPod Sport kit, which involves an electronic sensor inserted under the inner sole of a new Nike running shoe dubbed the Moire (pronounce (MOR-ay). That sensor talks to a small wireless receiver that attaches to Apple's iPod nano music player.

Laser Turntable offers the Vinyl Solution
Topic: Home Entertainment
If you’re one of those folks who believes that no audio medium has ever improved on the vinyl LP, you’ll want to know about ELP’s Laser Turntable. Yes, it plays records, but with a laser instead of a needle, so it won’t cause damage or deterioration to your moldy oldies. And, because there is no needle making contact with the grooves, it delivers unaltered sound that’s as close to the original recording as you’re likely to get. If you can let go of your prejudice against CDs and the like, you might even be happy to hear it comes with a remote that lets you pause and advance the record. But you better really love analog sound, because the Laser Turntable will set you back $15,000.

Jobs wins Wired's 'Steve Jobs' trophy
By Macworld staff
Apple CEO Steve Jobs has won yet another Wired Rave Award, though he didn't turn up at the awards event to pick it up.
Jobs won a 'Renegade of the Year' award in 2004. This year, Apple's leader had the ultimate accolade of winning a brand new award that was named after him.
Wired says its new 'Steve Jobs Award' "recognises sustained excellence and creative genius". Steve Jobs is the first winner of this unusual badge of honour.

First Impressions: Apple 13-Inch MacBook
By Dave Nagel
On only two occasions have I rushed out and purchased a Mac on the day of its debut. The first was my dual 2.0 GHz G5. That was a few years back, and that machine is still going strong as a viable creative workstation. The second occasion was yesterday when Apple introduced the new 13-inch MacBooks. This time around, I bought two...

A Quick Review of iWeb's Latest Enhancements
Review: iWeb's enhancements are exactly what it neededPosted May 15th 2006 9:00PM by David ChartierFiled under: iLife, Software, Internet Tools, ReviewsIn the most recent iLife '06 software update that Damien mentioned, iWeb understandably received the largest bump of new features and bug fixes; after all, it is the latest to arrive at the iLife party. Considering that I've been pretty vocal about my gripes with this otherwise fantastic addition to both iLife and .Mac, you can imagine my enthusiasm for Software Update to work its magic asap.

iWoz
Quoted from Cult of Mac...-TGAmazon has posted what appears to be the final cover to Steve Wozniak's memoir, I, Woz: How I Invented the Personal Computer and Had Fun Along the Way. I'm interested to read the book, co-written with author and journalist Gina Smith. Woz's love of simple and elegant engineering is still with Apple today. It's quite interesting, in light of Steve Jobs's reported decision not to write a forward to the book, that the title is "iWoz" as opposed to the "I, Woz" initially announced. The lower case "i" aesthetic is so much a part of Jobs' second tenure at Apple, which Woz had no real part in, that some might infer some playful rivalry in this choice. I would never do that, of course. ;) It's marketing, pure and simple.
