Apple Introduces Safari for Windows

I've installed and run this on WindowsXP. Apple's claims are not exaggerated. The user experience is a bit like coming home. I haven't yet given it a thorough going over. More on that later. -TG

Apple Introduces Safari for Windows: "The world’s fastest web browser for Macs is now available for Windows PC’s. Safari 3, introduced at the World Wide Developers Conference in San Francisco, is the fastest browser running on Windows, based on the industry standard iBench tests, rendering web pages up to twice as fast as IE 7 and up to 1.6 times faster than Firefox 2. Safari joins iTunes in delivering Apple’s legendary user experience to both Windows and Mac users as well as full support of open Internet standards. Safari 3 features easy-to-manage bookmarks, effortless browsing with easy-to-organize tabs and a built-in RSS reader to quickly scan the latest news and information. Safari 3 public beta is available today as a free download at www.apple.com/safari."

I watched Steve's WWDC keynote last night. They actually run through iBench's test suite with Safari Windows racing against Internet Explorer. Wow, it is as they say: fast.

Safari is offering full support of open Internet standards but we don't know about proprietary standards like Microsoft's ActiveX controls. I am assuming IE will remain entrenched for the time being, unfortunately, in situations where ActiveX technology was used to develop the website.

Of course, I'm also hoping those websites will be able to throw off their shackles using newer Web 2.0/AJAX technology!

Intersting how many think so poorly of Safari as to make to them this decision seem ridiculous. I don't know if Safari is a Firefox killer nor do I see it supporting ActiveX. Ever. So one is left to wonder if having Safari for Windows is yet another way to fuel development for iPhone applications and Apple in general.
